2 Unit Play. Take #720 Davidson -7 over Loyola-Chic. (7:30 p.m. ET, Thursday, March 12)

I don’t think Davidson takes Loyola lightly despite their 9-23 record. The Ramblers have won three of four but are still a terrible shooting team, and Davidson is very good at defending the three-ball. The Wildcats can make deep shots (39.2% in away games), while Loyola is almost -5 in TO margin per game. 

3 Unit Play. Take #750 Georgia -6 (-108) over Ole Miss (7:00 p.m., ET Thursday, March 12)

I’ll say Georgia won’t be as stupid as Texas and actually take Ole Miss seriously. The Rebels beat the Horns because they were +10 in TO margin. The Bulldogs generate 13.7 TOs a game, so the three Ole Miss had last night won’t be duplicated. Georgia arrives 5-1 SU/ATS recently, and the SU winner of their games is on a 10-0 ATS run. The Dawgs are 15-3 ATS in away or neutral games versus poor defensive teams forcing 12 or fewer turnovers after 15+ games.

2 Unit Play. Take #741 Northwestern +12.5 over Purdue (6:30 p.m. ET, Thursday, March 12)

Purdue wins, however, 1-15 ATS in Big Ten tourney games. Northwestern was impressive last night and lost by only 4 at Purdue eight days ago.

2 Unit Play. Take #759 TCU +6 over Kansas (9:30 p.m., ET Thursday, March 12)

What Kansas team shows up? Anyone’s guess. Though I’m no fan of TCU coach Jamie Dixon, his team is 9-1 lately, with a 7-3 ATS mark, with the spread losses as faves. Jayhawks 3-15 SU in away or neutral games versus teams committing 12 or fewer turnovers after 15+ games.

2 Unit Play. Take #765 Colorado State +5.5 over San Diego St. (9:00 p.m. ET, Thursday, March 12)

I believe the Rams were looking ahead to this match-up, which is why they shot 39% in the win but did not cover versus Fresno St. yesterday. CSU is on a 9-1 SU run, while the Aztecs limp in 2-4 and 1-5 ATS. San Diego State 2-14 ATS in away or neutral games when playing against a good team (Win Pct. 60% to 80%) after 15 or more games.

Abilene Christian shot 50% last night in the victory, a rarity for a club at 40.7% in their last 15 games. In the same time span, they allow over 50% shooting defense, and Utah Tech connects on 47.1% of shot attempts. My numbers show UT by 5 or more.

2 Unit Play. Take #10 Buffalo -140 (60 Min.) over Washington (7:07 p.m. ET, Thursday, Mar. 12)

The Sabres are on an 8-0 roll, and they face a slumping Washington squad that is 1-4, having allowed 19 goals in this downturn. Buffalo’s offense is in another gear, having averaged better than 5 GAG in its last six starts. The Sabres are on an 8-0 spurt against losing teams and 18-4 at home after scoring three goals or more in four straight games. They get it done in three periods.

2 Unit Play. Take #18 Boston -152 over San Jose (7:07 p.m. ET, Thursday, Mar. 12)

Boston has won 13 in a row on home ice, and they face San Jose, which has lost three straight and 8 of 11. Expected Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman is 16-5 in Bean Town with 91.9% SP, and in his last four starts, that SP is 94.4%! The Sharks are 2-7 against the B’s recently, including 0-4 at TD Garden.

NEW - Cleveland Guardians

Cleveland was 15.5 games behind Detroit in the AL Central and 11 back in September, but still won the division on the last day of the season. It was a perfect storm of circumstances for the Guardians, who got scalding hot, with Detroit going arctic cold. However, Cleveland wants to contend for the division and not much else, and their fans know it. The Guards have an excellent pitching staff, beginning with Tanner Bibee and Gavin Williams. Stephen Vogt has shown a proclivity for having his pitchers ready for each outing and developing a bullpen that was #3 last year, despite E. Clase to a gambling scandal. Unfortunately, the hitting is the exact opposite. Last season, Cleveland was last in runs scored and on-base percentage, and one digit better than the Angels for the worst hitting club in the junior circuit. Frankly, if they didn’t have Jose Ramirez, it’s hard to imagine where this team would be. Plus, the front office says, they think the younger players will learn to hit. Really!! To the Guards' credit, they play to their strengths; if the pitching falters, look out.

NEW - San Diego Padres

Win World Series +3500 (T 14th)   Season Win Total – O/U 83.5 -110

The San Diego Padres are stuck behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. This is who they have chased for years as their hated rival and have been unable to come anywhere close to duplicating their success. After all these years, Manny Machado will be 34 and Fernando Tatis Jr. will be 27, and the clock is officially ticking, if this group has what it takes to advance to a World Series. The Padres play in a park that is conducive to helping pitchers, and it does, curtailing the offense. But if you are looking at one major difference between the Friars and their rivals, San Diego comes up short in clutch performances when it counts the most. Running this team back with the same top players and pitchers doesn’t lend itself to outperforming the best in the NL. After winning 90 games a year ago, the win total down this low is not optimistic. Maybe the Padres can surpass the final total, but they have a weak bench, no help in the minors, and a collection of starting pitchers that lack an upside. Unless new skipper Craig Stammen can alter the culture, it’s more of the same for the brown and yellow

Arizona Diamondbacks

Win NL West +2200 (4th)  Win NL +3500 (11th) *Season Win Total – O/U 79.5 -110

It seemed like Arizona was on the cusp of becoming a regular NL West contender after reaching the World Series in 2023. The Diamondbacks had young stars like Corbin Carroll and Geraldo Perdomo, blended with quality experience and new arms in the pitching staff. The last two years have seen significant injuries, and 2025 saw the pitching staff collapse to #24 in runs allowed. There is not a lot of room for optimism for the starting staff, unless Ryne Nelson and Brandon Pfaadt pitch well above career norms. Zac Gallen has less movement on pitches, dropping in strikeouts and adding more walks, leading to hits. Ketel Marte is another solid player for the D-Backs, but the rest of the batting order has holes and low on-base percentages, and there is no bench, it seems, coming into the season. The truth, the UNDER looks like a good bet.

Cincinnati Reds

Win World Series +5500 (18th)  Season Win Total – O/U 80.5 -110

Cincinnati went to the playoffs for the first time in a dozen years (excluding 2020 Covid year) and showed promise. Manager Terry Francona showed this younger group how to be big league players as a team. The next step is harder because the everyday younger players seem to have ceilings outside of Elly De La Cruz, who is coming off a disappointing season, yet is still just 24. Spencer Steer and Matt McClain were supposed to be studs and went backward last year. Those two and De La Cruz are the answer to continued improvement. The starting pitching is the team's strength, but they need this group of 20-somethings to avoid continued injuries, especially Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo. The bullpen has depth and a variety of different arms, which Francona has always loved. This year feels like mental toughness is important, with players stepping up. With the total this low, I’ll call for an OVER.
